Intertwining the home and garden has always been a driving force in P. Allen Smith’s design work and teaching. Whether it is a garden room, a porch space, or an interior, his taste and style result in a unique and beautiful environment that exceeds client aspirations. Both his gardens and the interiors of his homes have been featured in national media and firmly establish his role as a leading tastemaker.

P. Allen Smith & Associates is the design side of P. Allen Smith’s media company, Hortus, Ltd. Before Allen began producing gardening media, he was a successful independent garden center owner and nationally known garden designer with a multi-generational background in the nursery industry. At the same time that his television and book career took off, he expanded the design company in order to practice what he preached and to continue his hands-on learning. PAS&A combines the diverse backgrounds of the design team – architecture, landscape architecture, architectural history, garden history, botany and conservation – to create spaces that inspire and intrigue while working in concert with nature.

Our scope of work encompasses all sizes, from small residential garden spaces to large estates, institutional campus projects, and botanical gardens. Our services range from horticultural consultation to design build and everything in between and spread from coast to coast. The common thread throughout all of these projects is a site appropriate response to clients’ wishes and desires that gain their identity from the culture and place they inhabit. One of the best plantsmen of this generation, Allen also has a passion for history and architecture that brings unique perspective and richness to his projects.
